Gravel pit Diorama

Post by B61 MACK »

Will be making a start on the gravel pit diorama over the next few months, I will be using some foam board for the main part, size is about 600 x 600 and will be about 200 high.
Here is what I starting with.

Light brown is foam coreboard which I bought for N-scale layout but did not work out as could not pin or glue the track down, It came from Bunnings Hardware in 1200x600x40.
The white is packing foam it comes in 2mm to 50mm even thicker, They use it around TV's, White goods Etc.
The white one cuts easy with bead knife or hobby blade but the coreboard is a lot harder to cut, almost got my finger last time I cut it.
Will be gluing it together once I shaped it with Wood glue and put a brick or two on it untill glue drys.
Oh coreboard is put in the roofs and inside walls.
Will post step by step as I go and show what I am doing.

Oh you can use packing cardboard but you need to build up a few layers and you can pick it up free from shop dumpsters same with the white foam you can find that free too.
What I am using is because I had it.
Oh you can use the white foam fruit boxes too.

I remember why I did not use the white foam before as its the wrong one to use, You have trouble carving it, All you end up with is little balls of foam everywere  So I had to glue news paper all over it to hold it in place using wood glue.
I put a base colour down a dark grey once it is dry will add the gravel to it.
