Two tone paint

Post by sandboarder »

Thought I'd show how I do two tone paint now I'm getting more confident in it.

I use the yellow Tamiya tape to mark out the area. If trimming is required I mark with a sharpie or pencil and transfer the tape onto glass to cut. Reapply the yellow tape and rub down firmly. Paint your second colour. I leave to dry for 30 minute and then carefully remove the tape and allow to complete dry out before touching again.

Thanks for uploading :) I love seeing people do stuff that might seem easy, it really reaffirms how to do it, and usually makes the biggest impact on the finished product :D

I have problems with bleeding around the edges of the 70mm stuff. any size under that seems to work well tho.

I used the 18mm Tamiya tape. I've bought a roll of 40mm tamiya and it a completely different tape.

I found its easier to remove the tape before it completely drys and it causes cracking and may lift and remove paint.

If you use the blue painters tape make sure your first colour is 100% dry and gassed as the blue tape is sticker.

Bleeds are annoying!! I rub the tape down and check seals right before paining and spray a light mist to help seal the tape before spraying a heavier, wetter coat.

Thanks for the Tut' mate, going to need this for the Kenny, the Nomad should be ok for it's just the roof ;)
I was only saying to Luke, I've seen guys use BMF when doing two tone  bit of a waste and you would have to be careful when rubbing it down because it would be a pain in the a... to remove.....

you'd have some pretty clean lines though dunno
