Bandai Haro (SMS paint test)

Post by sandboarder »

Yep I started another WIP rofl

When I can this will be painted with SMS paints. Quickly snap built the model. Now time to strip, wash and prime with 1500 black. By that stage I’ll then be time to base coat in SMS black before spraying the blue green flip and then dealing with their clear coat.

rofl nothing wrong with that mate, good to see you still building and getting adventurous with airbrush and the paint thumbsup

Just try not to paint on the warmer days, I find around 20-25 is perfect temp for using the airbrush. Above 30 is to hot to airbrush paint, it will dry before it hits the surface.

Look forward to seeing how the blue green flip works.
Could always use the super clear III.

Cheers Luke I find 28 degrees is goo for rattle. An but suspected the airbrush would like temps that high where I paint.

I could use the super clear 3 but did buy the SMS super clear when I bought the Haro and mystery paint from them :D

So it’s about 20 degrees and sunny now, I decided to paint a base coat on this build about an hour ago. Using my usual airbrush settings I struggled to get a gloss coat, everything looked semi gloss

So after 2 coats and the larger pieces would have started to get thicker. I decided to adjust to trigger. So I was 30mm from the work with a 25mm diameter spray. To about 3” from the work and a spray of 60mm diameter. It’s looks gloss now! So I gave the 3 larger pieces a quick 3rd coat. They looked a lot better but the paint was too thick and orange pealed. Lesson learned.

When I spray the metallic colour coat I will start with the trigger adjusted back for a larger spray.

Colour on, the orange peal in the base coat shoes through. Still need to make changes to how I apply this paint. It’s very different to the Mr Colour that I have been using. I’ll airbrush the SMS clear on the body and rattle can the base. Lots of peal in the base.
