Layout

Post by B61 MACK »

This is the Maitland Rail Museum Inc, HO scale layout that was rebuilt by members to run trains on When the Museum is open first Sunday of the month.
We run some South Maitland Railways 10 class steam Locos, We have two old second hand White metal locos that came as a kit, but these days you can buy a ready to run plastic Loco.
PHOTO 1 show the right side of the layout, we used part of the old layout but the track is all new still needs the ballast to be put down.

2) shows the front of the track and the hills which I built also did all the back board painting too.

We will be changing the layout in a year or two to show parts of the track that the 10 class run on which was called the Lower Hunter Valley Coal Fields.
In the early days the Wooden four wheeler wagons had no air brakes as time went on they used large Metal coal wagon Ex N.S.W. GR ones then they used two Steam Locos to pull the coal train.
The 10 class was still running up untill early 1983.
Sadly only one is still running today plans are in the making to restore other one and funding to keep them running.

Yes it was good to rebuild the layout but the best thing is watching the faces of people who come to see it and take photos of the trains which I stop so they can get photos.
Also making the new middle part to match the two sides was a hard to do but it worked out in the end.
There is track to hold up to seven or more engines at the back.
