Revell '32 Ford 3-Window Coupe

Post by slowlylearning »

Doing this one using this sticker of a piece of Keith Weesner art as inspiration. Not going full toon-y, just a chop, channel and canvas top somehow. I know it's not a Model A, but it's close enough... And have you seen the prices for Revell Model A kits?!

Drew up a quickchange and widewhites with caps. It's so fun designing stuff to be as production-efficient and user friendly as I can... Then print one set and forget about all the work  Still gonna convex the whitewall in a little bit more and extend the pie-crust section further in towards the edge of the whitewall to complete the look I'm after... and bubble out the hubcaps a bit. It's so hard to visualize stuff from the PC screen in to real life and how it'll look in actual 3D.

If anyone remembers if a kit besides the AMT 57 Ford kit that had a Y-block please lemme know so I can go hunting. I'm hoping there's a better version out there. I hate the AMT one... Picky, I know

Always the creative genius with the 3D stuff and building something different and cool. thumbsup

For the canvas top you could possibly make the basic shape out of styrene or print one, then cover in some sort of medical tape. Guys on LayitLow use to use that technique for the up tops on the verts.

Cheers guys.

Yeah I was thinking of just texturing the roof after some general shaping then hitting it with a flat clear so as to not overcomplicate it  Medical tape is amazing for scale canvas tops, I've seen a few used to great effect for sure.

That link is amazing! I'm gonna get lost for hours in there! Cheers!

 many years of work in Tim Boyds page. He is pretty much the lead expert when it comes to scale Hot Rods.

The Y block is in these kits.
Ford 312 Y-block, AMT 1957 Thunderbird (trophy series kits from 62 has full chrome show version)

Ford 292 Y-block, Revell/Monogram 1956 Ford pickup. 90's version comes with extra parts (this one is the most accurate according to Tim)

Info sourced from Scale Auto mag, issue april 2007.

I've never heard of him but I bet I've seen tons of his work over the years  His builds look incredible!

I ended up pilfering the engine from the Revell 57 Ford Del Rio wagon, it's supposed to be a 312 or something I'm pretty sure.

I lost all my blutac somehow so doing nice mockups without doing a balancing act is a tad tricky  But I did quickly knock up some 32 rails on the PC to eye-ball a front mount engine holder cross member part doo-dad. Gonna use the digital rails as a base to draw up some more parts and see if I feel like printing anything out someday soon
