Bandai FG (first grade) Zaku

Post by sandboarder »

I bought this one locally for an experiment. It’s an old casting and a different kit. I think I’ve glue the feet on wrong but oh well. I wouldn’t recommend a FG kit when the same model can be found as a HG for $20.

What’s in the box

After some grey, green and black paint. I used some extra thin glue with ordinary results, something to work on later. I panel lined it and want to airbrush lacquer clear coat over the enamel panel lines to see if they bleed. Then I’ll damage and dirty it up.

This will go back in the box for now until I can airbrush the clear.

Using a square file I damaged this one and have been waiting for enough spare time to move forward. I left it on the bench and decided to use the cleaning brush before clear coating.

I airbrushes Mr Hobby super UV flat clear over the enamel panel lines and so far they haven’t changed at all :D really hoping I can continue to do this. The SDs will be the next test if airbrushing lacquer over enamel.

Oh damn! Love that damaged armor effect! SO cool!!

That brush looks cool! I never understood anti-static stuff, invisible air-lectricity repelling wizardry! I have a couple of big fat paintbrushes I basically stab whatever I'm about to paint with to rid em of dust etc.

Me either but I have no fat brushes so I thought if I’m going to buy something I’ll get a cheap anti static. The Mr Hobby brush is crazy expensive so Tamiya it was.

I was using a microfibre cloth but that left more dust then it picked up

Next layer

Not sure why but this dried a bit chalky.

Green again

Will wait until it’s completely dry and see if I need to remove more of the grey. Then it’s another lacquer over enamel test. Most of my weathering washes are enamel so I want to seal this grey gunk wash with lacquer before moving on.

I’m looking forward to trying out the Ammo by Mig streaking enamel stuff and trying to streak the Mr Weathering but they are after dry brushing.
