Australia Day - Racist?

Post by bodgybro »

Just had a chat with a guy at work... seeing as I have 5 muslims at work, the subject of Australia day being racist was brought up.
I got a little annoyed to be honest... this is Australia, so why can't we celebrate Australia day in our own country?
Not going to continue ranting my opinion other than to say, we have plenty of airports if you don't like it.

BUT... a point was raised, which I kind of like and wondered if anyone thinks it would be racist to follow through on.
Seeing as muslims, who seem to be the majority pushing to ban Australia day or at least change it to 'citizen' day, can't eat pork due to their religious beliefs. instead of eating lamb on Australia day, those proud aussies, who love us some bacon and pork.. fire up the bacon and eggs for breaky and then pork ribs for lunch or dinner, washed down with alcohol while also checking out the mrs in her bikini or bare minimum clothing to show of her proud aussie body.

I for 1 WILL be doing bacon for breaky AND ribs for dinner... call me racist if you like, but I'm a proud aussie and if doing so is a little F you to those who want to change the way of life us aussies have enjoyed for decades.. excluding those immigrants who have assimilated to our way of life or not tried to change it, even if they don't partake, then i will do my part.
pork, beer and partial nudity forever!!

Well here's my ozflag rant....

I'm part Aboriginal and proud of it, us Nunga's call it....Invasion Day  , but I'll still fire up the BBQ for bacon and eggs in the morning and a few chops washed down with a few Coopers Pale Ales in the arvo.... ;) yes!

I'm a proud Aussie and love our way of life ozflag

I'm also ex Army with close to 20 years service and I'm quite happy to "suit up" again if these idiots want us to change our way of life all in name of some religion :x

So my imigrant friends understand the term 'FIFO'.....Fit in or F.ck off' hi5

They put their own meaning behind the day and take it out of context.

If your a refugee who's come to Australia for a better life, a life here which is better then where you came from. Then you celebrate Australia day because it's awesome to be here. I don't care if you eat pork, drink beer or have coloured skin because that not what its about. It's about acknowledging that we have a pretty good life here compared to other country and its about our lives now and not the past, we can't change the past no matter how horrible it was.

i'm glad you all share my same view :)
I personally don't care what colour you are either... if you live here and love it, celebrate it and be a proud aussie not a whinger who wants this country to change to suit you!

i am so looking forward to Australia day this year now!!

Doesn't worry me, as long as nobody gets hurt :)

I've had friends who have been staunch racists who spew the most disgusting crap, luckily theyre not my friends any more.
