P-51D Mustang

Post by B61 MACK »

Working on a Academy 1/72 scale P-51D Mustang plane will be building as a Australian one.
Looked at Vallejo Silver (70.997) but it was to gritty to brush on so I looked at Tamiya Chrome Silver X-11 which worked brushed on.

Put bit of the chrome silver on the tail it will need a few coats and near the propeller I tryed the vallejo silver and found it to gritty and would no stick to the plastic, have trouble with all the metallic paints.

This will be a cool project. Try Mr Colour Silver #8 it’s lacquer but works great especially for dry brushing.

Are you gonna make it a RAAF one?
I have a 1/24 one and can't find Aussie decals in that scale.

Bear it has the decals for the RAAF 76 Squadron P-51D A68-766 1946, RAAF 77 Squadron P-51D 68-799 1951, it's Propeller Spinner is red white and oxford blue. Also the decals for Jeff Trappetts restored CA-18 MK21 Mustang seen at the RAAF Museum Point Cook in the early 1980's Propeller Spinner red. will be doing the 76 Squadron one as it has a silver spinner. :)
Would you be able to get the decals from RC plane ones.
