I got to see them in person at the Thunderdome in one of the last events there back in '98, was incredible to see how much they moved around on the bumps and how much they had to be manhandled around.
Not a big fan of the Thunderbird kits compared to the Lumina, the Ford has some nice touches but it is just awkward to put together with vague/dodgy mounting points.
Also ran out of white Shabo tyre transfers so will have to order some more of them as I still have Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon kits in the stash.

I can only imagine the whoosh that'd create going past you if you were near the wall aye. The bit I like the most about your model in particular is the rocker covers drool They look so tough!

Looking good
Re: Dick Johnson NASCAR Thunderbird
Ok, I have made a start and dived into the world of ALPS printed decals.
All good so far, did the bonnet as a trial first:
Layer 1

Layer 2

And just a bit of a start on the body

So I have cut a section of waste clear decal and put it on a spare body and will test that Tamiya X13 gloss clear is compatible, but does anyone here have any advice on which clear to use over ALPS (Three Amigos) decals?
Would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Decals look great so far

Re: Dick Johnson NASCAR Thunderbird
PM sent about TS-13 but for others... yes, TS-13 is my clear of choice for all my decals, ALPS, inkjet, laser, even over vinyl. light coats, works sweet.
I have a couple of questions about your decals tho
1. did you print these yourself?
2. why is the bonnet in 2 layers? i would have done the base layers in white and then the colours over the white, saves the hassle of 2 layers

No not my decals – I bought them from a model store last year, they are done by a group called Three Amigos, who I believe are based in America so not sure on their reasoning for going with two layers but they are looking ok, not quite as good as the Days of Thunder screen printed ones I got from Powerslide but for a niche subject they are more than usable.
Tried a test with the TS-13 today only for it to not spray normally, it just squirted out and pooled, looks like there was a pin hole on the seam of the can (it would be pretty old) where the propellant has escaped so will be waiting till the grandparents want to visit Jiminee Jr to be able to continue as there is no where to buy Tamiya paint here anymore.
And I noticed the STEEL PRODUCTS decal on the bonnet is not straight – not a great day.

I reckon I know someone who could easily remake that for you
